The Reading Chair (which I also refer to as the 'Seven-Degree Chair' because of the 7° angles of the back legs, splay of the side rails, and tilt of the side rails) is an original design made of beech wood. The seat back slats are hot-pipe bent so the curve fits and supports one's back. They ride loose in mortises in the top and bottom seat-back rails and are thin enough to flex as one moves in the chair, adding to the support and comfort. The seat bottom is sculpted for a comfortable fit that prevents sliding forward in the chair as one leans back and obviates the need for a cushion. The design of the lower part of the chair is based on triangular elements that provide rigidity and strength to the structure. The chair is finished with Danish oil and wax.
